did it? I doubt I have been around a two stroke diesel in decades, not sure I would recognize one from the sound. good heads up.

@Fire37Rescue They are easy to spot, because of the sound. Consider yourself lucky to not have had to work with them, they sound great, but an incredibly narrow powerband makes them tough to drive.

Looks like they have a hard time out of the gate. Tower and Ladder Trucks are sluggish as it is,and with a two stoke I would imagine you could write a letter to your mom before you get to the fire.

@Fire37Rescue sad part is the only reason I know the basic make and model is its the one that hit my car when I was in high school. 25 years ago. My fault. I heard him but did not see him till I pulled out in to an intersection and he T-boned me. 1979 Datsun B210 did not hold up well...

@Fire37Rescue I only missed it by 7 years.... And I swear I found a pic that labeled it as an 81 model. Of course now I can't find it... so close...

@TheMonkeyOnYourBack They only sound like that because they are 2 strokes, what sounded like 10,000 rpms was only about 3500.

Yeah usually ladder trucks are the oldest in the fleet, not as much use as the rescue engine and definitely less use than the ambulance. Most small departments don't have the budget for a new ladder truck. PS check out the ladder truck safety videos some are liveleak worthy.
