    • @dennix APU/EPU does the trick. No need for the engines to be running.

    • @KPD ah i already thought so...then i don't get it why they first start 1 eninge and than unfold the wings

    • @KPD really? always thought they had to put the hydraulics up and running to do that.

    • @komet watched them for about three years when i was deployed and they always had props spinning before unfolding the wings.

    • @komet Correct. Hawkeye's APU is normally used to pump the rotating radome hydraulics (and power up the electric systems when EPU isn't available, of course). It's not normally used to fold/unfold the wing. It can do it, but there's no point using a vital system when you are going to have to start the engines anyway. The radome normally starts rotating once the aircraft is airborne (to minimise the risk of damage cause by extreme takeoff/landing G force). So basically, the engine is the best cho More..

  • Love the Hawkeye...but even more interesting was the F-4 Phantom at the end. I really didn't know anyone was still flying them.

    • @safetychuck2 Huh ! Didn't you watch the news ,a Turkish phantom just got shot down over Syria

    • @markymark69 Thanks for the TD. For your information, I only watch TV about once a month (if then) because I find it boring and loaded with garbage. I know the US phased them out while I was in the military in the 80's. Not surprised Turkey is still flying them I guess...at least it doesn't have a prop. Also explains the shoot down...the thing leaves a nice trail behind it when it flies...easy to spot.
