CORPUS CHRISTI - A local dance teacher is back in court and being accused of having sex with a 13-year old-student.

The mother of the student took the stand Tuesday and the judge ordered KRIS 6 News not reveal her identity in order to protect the victim.

Sandra Borrego, 43, is accused of having at least 22 sexual encounters with the boy.

Borrego pleaded guilty Tuesday to 22 charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child and was sentenced to six months in jail and ten years probation.

After an emotional plea from the victim's mother, Judge Jose Longoria agreed to accept Borrego's plea because a trial might be too traumatic for her teenage son.

The mother of the victim took the stand and addressed Borrego.

"Right now, I really, really feel that you're not sorry for what you've done. I think you're just sorry that you got caught," the boy's mother said.

Prosecutors said Borrego had sex with the boy at least 22 times at her dance studio and her home. The boy was only 13 at the time.

The boy's mother pleaded with the judge not to put her son through trial, but not because she didn't want justice.

"Because of the additional trauma that might be suffered by the victim in this case," Nueces County District Attorney Carlos Valdez said.

The district attorneys office said a trial for the teenager would've meant he would have to testify, recalling the grotesque acts he endured.

"Today, seeing you is like it happened yesterday, and I'm so glad he's not here to see you," the mother said to Borrego.

Judge Longoria honored the mother's wishes and accepted Borrego's guilty plea.

In exchange, he sentenced the former dance teacher to six months in jail and ten years probation.

Meanwhile, there were questions as to who fathered Borrego's child almost two years ago, but since no trial will be held, the child's paternity results won't be introduced as evidence.

As to whether the victim is the father of Borrego's two-year-old daughter, the district attorney's office said they may never know.

"The judge sealed that very early since it was not offered in evidence, it is still under seal," Valdez said.

Though Borrego won't serve any prison time for now, the victim's family said justice was served.

They just hope the victim will someday recover from the trauma.

"At least if I stopped one person, I stopped one person in this community to hurt other children, that's all your honor," the mother said.

Borrego has already served one day of her six month jail sentence at the Nueces County Jail.

After that she's expected to serve 10 years probation and pay a $1,000 fine.

The district attorney's office said because Borrego is a citizen of Mexico she could likely be deported after serving jail time.

Violation of her probation could mean spending the rest of her life in prison.
