Thread-Waisted Wasp Doing It's Thing
Ammophila Procera
I was just able to catch this wasp loading a stunned caterpillar into it's den. I saw it walking it from way across the yard and ran in to get the camera. Sorry for the zoom movement but I had to maintain some distance from her.
I was then able to catch it sealing up the entrance. If you listen to it loud, you will hear her vibrate the loose soil to lock in her rocks. Near the end it appears she uses a pebble as a tool to vibrate the soil.
Pretty boring unless you are fascinated by this kind of thing, like me.
It's about 6 minutes long.

Sorry, for those of you who don't know, this is a parasitic wasp. It lays it's eggs on stunned caterpillars then buries them. The eggs hatch and have a nice warm meal to grow fat upon.
That was a Tomato Horn Worm she buried, which makes me happy.

@starskyandhutch69 Yeah that caterpillar is in for one hell of a "pregnancy". Poor thing but, I love tomatoes so +1 for the wasp in my book lol.

I like this wasp because of their ability to take out the horn worms. I grew some tobacco this year and found out that the horn worms LOVE it.

Nature is ruthless and violent for sure. Almost every life form on Earth survives by stealing the energy from some other life form.
