EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - An Evansville man is hoping police find the person responsible for spray painting his fence.
He's angry about the vandalism on his property on West Virginia Street, but it's the message sprayed that has him worried about his reputation.
Neighbors said this isn't the kind of neighborhood where vandalism happens, but early Sunday morning Roy Hall took a verbal beating when vandals spray painted "A child molestor lives here" on his fence.
Hall said he's spent years building his reputation as a trustworthy businessman and a good father, but these disturbing words could cost him everything.
"Oh man, oh man, it made me sick to my stomach," Hall said.
Hall told police when he woke up on Sunday morning he found these words spray painted on his fence.
"I took tarps and covered it up," Hall said. "I don't want people to think I'm a child molester and I'm not."
Evansville police said Hall isn't a child molester, but according to the Indiana Sex Offender Registry, there is one living on his street.
Monday, 100 new fence boards have replaced the old.
A neighbor said she's worried Hall's roofing business will suffer.
"If they have kids then they aren't going to let him work on roof because of what his fence says," neighbor Kassi Lamar said.
Hall said he's hopeful police will catch the vandals before he does.
"If they find them they aren't gonna like that," Hall said.
Hall, who lives behind Lewis Bread Company, was hopeful that their security cameras caught the vandalism on tape, but officials said they didn't have surveillance video.
If found, those who participated will be charged with criminal mischief.
