September 1938 had this category 3 hurricane hit several coastal areas in and near New England with little warning..they didn't have the technology we take for granted in present times..this bitch killed 256 people and injured over 2000..it had reported gusts of 183 MPH at it's peak and caused over 250 million in damages..lots of money considering it was 1938
