No, it still sounds like a bad idea. Any sort of "cage" to put around the intake would disrupt airflow through the motor and cause a lot more problems, never mind the FOD potential.

Just a thought, typed while I thought it, and air flow near motors would be too disruptive, what about 'flaps' that deploy from the wing beneath the forward control surface, like a fold out bird snatcher at landing gear altitudes?
