@MajorBS The US kills more civilians than anyone. Not to mention all the wars they go to are illegal and only fought to benefit the wealthy neoconservative elite.
US soldiers intentionally target civilians and are even given direct orders to do so by commanding officers. Even 4 star generals are aware of this happening but they don't do anything about it.

Religion's most powerful influence over man, is it's tendency to generate strong family/tribal/cultural/national bonds, thus strengthening that civilization/culture to survive even in many worst case scenarios such as if it lost control over all of its territory by invaders.
I don't think the need for that cultural bond influence has disappeared - to keep our civilization strong.
Reigion does a shitty job at explaining Nature, but it does have a very deep rooted purpose for mankind.
