If you care about american troops and vets, don't miss this one. Done with skill, style and irony - and still relevant.
OVERVIEW OF THE VIDEO
The Tet Offensive A battlefield victory for the Americans and a moral victory for the NVA. Begun by General No Nguyen Jap of the NVA was a two part battle. The NVA placed the Marine base at Khe Sanh under siege hoping to perhaps achieve another Dien Bien Phu on the Americans. Meanwhile the clever Giap launched a major offensive against the south, hoping against hope to provoke an uprising against the Americans and South Vietnamese. Both were complete failures on the battlefield with huge NVA losses in personnel.
Nevertheless, the Tet offensive was possibly the most significant battle of the entire conflict. Despite American firepower and huge numbers of dead, the North Vietnamese watched the American media response, and the reaction of the American public - which was completely defeatist - and decided they could, and would, ultimately wait out the Americans and win. They were correct.
From the documentary "Letters Home from Vietnam".
Not all of it raw footage and over-dubbed by actors including Randy Quaid, Johnny Depp and Harvey Keitel.
To all the American soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines who so selflessly gave the ultimate sacrifice - on this Memorial day, let us make sure their legacies will forever be in our hearts, minds and souls, since we shall meet again.
