HOUSTON—A soldier from La Porte who died in Afghanistan under mysterious circumstances returned home Thursday for a hero’s burial.
Surrounded by American flags, the body of Army specialist Jarrett Griemel arrived at noon at Ellington Field.
The 20-year-old graduate of La Porte High School was found in his barracks at Forward Operating Base Gardez in Afghanistan on June 3. His family tells us there were o obvious signs of injury, but he was found bleeding from his nose and ears. The Army hasn’t released yet how he died.
Griemel married his high school sweetheart just over a year ago and had only been in Afghanistan 3 months.
His funeral is Saturday in La Porte.
