Paramedic watches his family die in accident...

This is honestly the worst thing that could ever happen to anyone, I'm at a lose of words. May they rest and in peace.

"An off-duty paramedic saw his wife, nine-month-old baby and two other relatives die in a horror crash on Sunday night.

Shane Sookdaw, an ER24 paramedic from Pietermaritzburg, was among the first on the scene of the collision.

He is undergoing trauma counselling after apparently witnessing the crash and seeing the bodies of his wife, baby, sister and brother-in-law.

Sookdaw and several relatives had spent the day at the Albert Falls Dam and were returning home when the crash happened on the R33, on New Greytown Road, near the Crammond turn-off.

Police spokeswoman, Warrant Officer Joey Jeevan, said three vehicles were involved.

Sookdaw’s wife, baby, sister and brother-in-law were travelling in a BMW, which split in half on impact. They were killed instantly.

Sookdaw was following in another vehicle.

An unidentified couple travelling in a Pajero were also killed.

Two others are in a critical condition in hospital.

Captain Dolf Otto of the Pietermaritzburg collision unit said it was unclear what had happened.

He said the Sookdaws were travelling towards Pietermaritzburg while the couple in the third vehicle were travelling towards Greytown.

They were involved in a head-on collision, he said."
