fatal accident at the 2012 World Hovercraft Championship 
On Friday 14. September a 54 year old driver died in a freak accident at a 2012 World Hovercraft Championship Formula 2 race held at the Thuringian Saalburg Bleilochtalsperre (a dam). After the start his Hovercraft turned sideways and he was hit by two other vehicles.
Tried my best to add some subtitles and a slow motion. Please excuse if the translation is not 100% accurate.

Hard to tell but was he hit by another hover craft, if so that looks to be the cause of his death. That was a HARD HIT!

@outsidelooknn You can see him with a helmet in hands in the video, but the accident really looks like he's without one. I don't know, but helmets are a rule for sure.
PS: This apparently was "only" Formula 2, they also have a F1!

unfortunately the drivers helmet came off in the first collision. we, as an international hovercrafting community, say that helmets, gloves and life jackets are IMPERATIVE. as the first one on the scene I can tell you first hand that this was a FREAK accident and in this case, the helmet had nothing to do with it. these craft would've been at about 60-70mph.

Condolences.
Why do they call these hover craft? I've seen other videos where they were called that too. I think of hover craft as those things the Nazis were working on that looked like a small flying saucer and flew around a few feet off the ground on a cushion of air created by downward thrust.
