Owner said he knew the car was running hot when he parked it. Later
heard commotion in school about a fire and knew it was his. The fire
also burned part of the van next to it.

Pretty unlucky that he had parked and had already walked off before it even started burning. Must of been smoldering already when he left. Then even if he had been there probably wouldn't of been much he could do.
