@superak83 I've experienced two near identical accidents, same impact characteristics, one without gear, one with full body armor and ballistic mesh from head to toe. In the former I broke several bones, in the latter which was a lot more violent, not a scratch. If the girl had ABS plastic with a bit of padding wrapped around her knees I'd near on guarantee she would not have anywhere near this amount of trauma. Good gear makes a tremendous difference.

@superak83 Leather is much tougher than say, denim short shorts. Aside from being more durable, it also doesn't "grab" the road's surface if you wreck and cause you to tumble. Instead, you slide. No substitution for a reinforced Kevlar plating under cargo/leather pants, but to expect a casual rider/scooter enthusiast is unreasonable.
