A child in the southern Lahij governate of Yemen is virtually disemboweled by Republican Guards. Doctors try to save him but seem none the wiser what to do in the video. Yemen has suffered instability since the revolution against a highly corrupt government was derailed by outside powers. The powers ensured that only the US-allied president Ali Abdullah Saleh was ousted, while most of his family and corrupt system of governance (which got Yemen into such a great mess) continues with impunity.

Republican Guards are led by Ahmad Ali, the son of the ousted president.

As a result of the farcical deal most of the people in the southern governates are now demanding that their state of independence from the north is reinstated with Aden as their capital. The south of Yemen was until very recently an independent state and the people have misgivings that the system of Ali Abbullah Saleh merely took their resources for the benefit of the north with nothing in return, while marginalising the southern people politically and culturally. The central Sanaa government has very little control over the south today. Many analysts believe that if southern Yemen were given a referendum like south Sudan, they would overwhelmingly vote for independence.
