It might look brutal and somehow cruel but most of us have been excluded from the actual killing of an animal for food. I see absolutely nothing wrong here, quick and effective.
And the fact they are British soldiers of course they are going to get a few laughs from it, why the hell not?

Moron, that's the easiest cleanest and most humane way to kill any bird you're going to eat. Hunting them with a gun is much worse. A bird shot while hunting is scared into fleeing into the air gets shot in the air and wounded, comes crashing down and impacts the ground, is picked up in the jaws of a dog that brings it to a hunter who then breaks its neck.
We don't all live on tofu and lentils and chicken does not actually come in plastic wrap despite what you see in the supermarket.
