St. Francis High School students have been disciplined for streaking at three Saints football games this season, and one of the teenagers could be charged with criminal sexual conduct because of his nakedness.
"The kids were consequenced," District Superintendent Edward Saxton said, adding that the students, all boys, were suspended for anywhere from one to 10 days. Saxton declined to offer specifics about any of the three incidents, including how many students were involved or whether any were repeat offenders. "This is more of a media issue than a school issue."
St. Francis hosts Irondale on Thursday, and Saxton said that recent news coverage is forcing him to coordinate with police to "have a plan in place" should there be another attempt at public disrobing.
"You can be as diligent as you want to," he added, "but it depends on the motivation of the student."
Immediately after one of the games, a road contest Sept. 18 in Fridley against Totino-Grace, three boys ran from one end of the field to the other "while the stands were still full ... and through the neighborhood," said police Detective Jennie Markham.
Staff from Totino-Grace caught up with two of them, and "I was told that [the St. Francis] athletic director claimed them [from police]," Markham said.
The two 17-year-olds were accused of trespassing and disorderly conduct, she said. However, because of one of them "had no clothes, as in not a stitch [and] showing his genitals to people under the age of 16," a charge of fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct could be leveled, Markham said.
She said the other two "were mooning the crowd, pulling down their boxers of some type. That's not [criminal sexual conduct] to show your back end."
Superintendent Saxton said he hopes to take his grandson to a game some day, maybe when he's 3 or 4, and "I don't want him to see things out of the norm" like this at a football game.
