..died this weekend. The video is of his picture perfect landing (with Pilot James Dutton, mostly in control out of atmosphere) of STS-131. I hope a fitting video epitaph for Liveleak (magnificent sonic booms around 3 min mark)
I just didnt want his passing to go unnoticed to Liveleak at the very least.
Its pointless to list his professional accomplishments, 'Shuttle
Commander' tells the whole story, since they dont let you fly that bird
without 1000s of hours on various types, a rare skill and an unflappable demeanor.
So Im just going to say what popped into my mind when I heard about his
passing, a day after it happened....which is... 'If some Low life like Kim
Kardashian had died this weekend, there would be millions in mourning,
when all she has accomplished was a golden shower and a booty dance'.
A great aviator, explorer and teacher dies, and its only a few who even register his passing...
I believe the future still lies with those few though, that are in awe
and are inspired by the adventures and discoveries that people like Alan
Poindexter strive for and achieve. The people at the forefront of
mankinds embryonic reach for the stars, building knowlege and wisdom
along the way.
We salute you Sir, and long may your travels continue on mans final and infinite adventure.

I know (knew) 3 former Astronauts. I briefly knew Alan. Nice guy. Tragic loss. He had a very famous father too.

Were it not for this video I likely wouldn't have known, either. Thank you.
RIP to a real Adventurer. And, more importantly, to a Teacher.
