  • The giant cray looks suspiciously like a lobster while the cray looks suspiciously like a baby lobster.

    • What North Americans call a crafish, Aussies call a Yabby. Crayfish is their version of a lobster. Like the Spiny lobster, Crayfish's meat gets tougher as they get older so that big one would be like chewing rubber. They usually stick to the 1kg range at restaurants and they're bloody expensive!

    • Come on down to Texas buddy, we have Crawfish fest every year. Blues music, Corona's, Gumbo, and a crawfish boil, all on the docks by the sail boats, its what I call heaven

  • Instead of killing these freakishly big animals people need to breed them and farm them. Why catch one when you could sell them by the hundreds?

    • How the hell are you going to breed that?
Never mind. I don't want to know.

    • Not sure if you can farm them. I believe you can trap them right off shore though. Just need a license. Check this out though.

It's from Gordon Ramseys F word. He went giant crab fishing in what looks like a frozen lake. He scuba'd down and grabed a crab by hand. The clip mentions twice how the crab are a nusiance and that there are very many of them.

Dude, that is where I want to go. Cut me several ice holes, lower down some traps, eat More..

    • Also if you watch that clip I mentioned, the crab Gordon grabs has another crabs arm in it's pinchers. You can see it clearly when he gras it. The crabs left arm. Enjoy, and eat well.

    • Sounds like the good life to me also.
I saw a program some time ago about New Zealands fresh water crayfish.(or crawfish)
They were supposedly giants compared to the ones caught in US Cajun Bayou country.
Those fresh water crays, imo, may be worth "accidently' being brought into the US as an invasive species but I'm really not sure exactly how big they are.
Any Kiwi's posting here know anything about them ?

    • I was in the Boston airport years ago and they had a giant Maine lobster in a tank. I understand when they get big, they tend to lose a lot of flavor. Don't know if it's true. I like the "chickens" and deuces sized Main lobsters myself.
That lobster from down under looks like a Rock lobster sitting on the scuba oxygen tank is around18 lbs !
It might be a tough old bird born in the late 1800's
