Out here we have Mennonite greenhouses everywhere. Let them get the sets going and I'll go and pay a quarter for each. Yeah, Stiggs, you have some g'nads for putting this up when you did with all this heat on the YS section. Good on ya. Where are you? Looks like it's getting warm there. VOTED!

YS heat or no heat, it's time to plant. Sloop, there appears to be a gathering Rennaisance of Your Say. It was in dire need of resuscitation. Gardening, with spring coming into being, is regenerative and life-enhancing. In light of all the loss we see in this world, we ought to all do something constructive.
My 20 is N TX.

I tried those things a couple of years ago and the damn squirrels tore them up. The bastards will be on my grill if they try to attack the garden this year.

I might plant watermelons. Trouble is, they take up so much space. There is a community garden area about a mile from my house where I might try melons and maybe canteloupes. Try growing melons, but be sure you have some hay or something suitable to mulch around your plants and keep those zeppelins off the bare earth.

lol
i get that alot.. i refuse to let it stop me from commenting when the mood hits me though.
btw stiggy, i gave you my support last year (or 2009 - you had a different stiggy tag) when people were freakin out about your garden vids, but i don't really comment on the them anymore because my interest is in plants that are illegal, so i haven't much to say about groceries.
i just watch the vid and read the comments to see what people can find to bitch about in them ;)

Summer is over down here in the southern hemisphere, so my vegies are done. I envy those about to plant out summer vegies, its a nice hobby to have, with tasty rewards.

Thanks smeb! Was out in the garden today. Planted green beans. Tomorrow, the tomatoes go in. Also, I will be trimming some tree limbs that are in the way of the sunlight. I have a week off and plan to get most of my garden going. I have seeds about to sprout in my mini-greenhouse (cucumber, eggplant, chard, and ampalaya). I'll be starting my watermelon seeds in the morning.
Now the chickens and the aquaculture (AKA fish farm), that's the next phase in my urban agriculture program. Once the pla More..

I envy you in Ireland. You can grow "cool weather" crops that would just wilt and fry down where I live. Give cabbage (preferably oriental, bok choy) a try and such things as broccoli and asparagus. Let me know if you have luck.
Nothing beats eating something that you grew yourself. And I'm not talking Jonathan Swift here.
