How to deal with TV Licence Cretins

Just thought people in UK may like a lesson on how to deal with such bipeds.

added: This guy Does own a TV yes...You don't need a license to own a television.
You only need a license to watch live broadcasts i.e. BBC, ITV, Sky.
You may watch non-live on-demand content without a license. You may not record live content without a license.

For all of those people who DO watch live transmissions then by all means pay for your licence and be done with it.
But for this guy, even though he has stated many times he does not require a licence by law.. this does little to stop the TVL harass and send threatening letters which is a disgrace.
You are under no obligation to invite these people into your house until such time they have proof that you are breaking the law, and proper warrant is produced.

Whilst I don't agree with the UK TV licence, the reason it is there is to pay for BBC programming which does produce good quality TV and radio without too much bias and no advertising. What I don't agree with is being forced to pay up even if you choose not to watch or listen to the BBC broadcasts. I don't watch SKY TV so I don't pay them. It should be the same for the BBC. It's not beyond the realms of technology to filter it and require a card or box to receive it. It's basically a More..

  • You are NOT required to have a TV Licence to simply own a TV.

You DO require a TV Licence if you use ANY equipment (Sky+, FreeView, Computer, Mobile, Tablet etc) to, view or record TV as it is being broadcast.

If you ONLY use iPlayer / 4oD / ITV-Player, then you do NOT need a TV License.

As worded in the TV Licence terms and conditions.

    Quote:
You need to be covered by a valid TV Licence if you watch or record TV as it's being broadcast. This includes the use of devices such as a computer, l More..

  • Right this will anger a few people with these comments, but here we go.

After living in Australia most of my life and moving to the UK 2 years ago due to a relocation from my company i can honestly say i would never find the need to complain about a Paying the TV license. The reason is the TV in Australia ( and other parts of the world i have lived and travel too ) is simply appalling and the BBC is a fantastic company with quality programs, docos, entertainment. C4,C5,ITV etc all are brilliant More..

1000 pound fine? Are you being serious?

As for as I know, every country pay a tax or a fee for having tv channels so I don't understand this guy's attitude.

the TV company needs to come up with a better system tehn saying "pretty please buy our license."

It is a license to be "allowed" to watch state channels TV, the ones ran by government... It is a absolute disgrace since it is only to pay for a few of them on which the programs are permanently cut with commercials...

  • Just to add to me below comments to the people that refuse to pay for the license, but fail to admit they watch the BBC, or listen to the radio, or watch the films, or go to the festivals, or buy the downloads from itunes, or watch Iplayer, or TOPGEAR.

i think you need to view the standard from around the world first, its shit. thats why the BBC and other programes sell the formats around the world.
