You'd think after the Vietnam conflict, we as a society, would have learnt how to treat our returning troops far better than we have done and continue to do.
It's a disgrace how these brave men (and women) are treated once their service is up.

@SomeTosser Absolutely...the government sends the troops out into their useless wars, and we have plenty of money to do that don;t we? But when they come home, damaged from war, the feds give them short thrift every time! Same thing happened after WW2 and every war.

@SomeTosser Hell you'd think we wouldn't engage in wars unless they were wars of national DEFENSE. When was the last time we actually fought a war where we defended the US from foreign enemies? I think it was in the 1800s.

@SomeTosser Yeah right, we helped YOUR national defense. No offense against ozzies, I like your country, but if it wasn't that we were attacked it wouldn't have been OUR national defense.
I'm not in favor of military intervention. I might have worked for awhile but we're broke. We can't afford to continue this insanity.

@G36CGir Obama has increased the VA's budget by 40%, and his reduction in defense spending doesn't effect the VA.

@docyoung I was in Iraq August of 2011, and i was never paid, because Obama was busy on vacation and put the senate on hold till he got back. The VA doesn't do shit for me anyways. My back hurts sooo fucking bad, at 22 years old, and they wont do anything for me...

I was around during August of 2011 and we almost weren't paid but they did end up paying us, it was for like one pay period and it was solved.
If you have a back injury sustained during your deployment, ie you have documentation of any kind that you were injured, the VA HAS to cover it for 5 years after your deployment.
Also, we pulled out of Iraq in 09 so not sure why you would be there.

Brave warriors coming back and killing themselves must be prevented at all costs. These heroes deserve the best, but it seems as if the soldiers are just numbers, dead or alive. I talked to a WW2 veteran who was involved in the invasion of Italy, I will never forget his heroic tales.

I don't want to offend any military vets here, but if you join the military, expect a goddamn horror show. The United States has been in conflict for most of it's existence. Army vets who were conscripted in WW2 have seen hell on earth. Yet, in Canada and America, every remembrance day they march their 95 year old asses to the war monuments to salute and pay tribute to their fallen comrades. Rain or fucking shine. Not wandering around their luxury homes surrounded by their gun collections trying More..

No laughing matter, unfortunately many of these men and women are being exposed to incredible amounts of time within deployments.
At the VA office which I go to, there are multiple young men which I have met which have had up to 4 deployments already. Anyone which has served in combat knows that this is a lot of shit for some people to handle, constantly being on edge and under duress will break people down eventually.
Would not wish it upon anyone. Many lives have been changed from it, I k More..

@nonconforme Tactics vs. strategy. I don't disrespect our military either. I think they do very difficult jobs and they do it incredibly well. Nevertheless, if you think at all, you have to realize that the entire purpose for the American military has been misused for centuries.
The man's right -- the military is a mercenary proxy for the military-industrial complex. Its the enforcement division of a profit machine for a very very few extremely wealthy old white men.
Its hardly worth dying More..

No. 1 Better jobs are hard to come by these days. More so if you're older.
No. 2 Having kids is a slow process of self sacrifice for them. What's the diff if you end it with a big bang, so to speak.
No. 3 With 1100+ points on this site, I think you've heard far stupider.

I think it depends on the soldier. Even though the majority of Americans respect their service and want to help them out, they cannot hand them high paying jobs they aren't qualified for just because they served. In my son's case, he came home and immediately went to college on the GI Bill. As soon as he earned his Bachelor's Degree he was offered three very good career positions by three employers, and he has chosen one of them. He was offered those positions because of the More..
