Union Pacific 844 departing Cheyenne

an impressively well kept steam UP steam locomotive No 844 hauls a rail tour out of Cheyenne among the busy everyday traffic movements.

'July 16, 2009 - Union Pacific 844, the only steam locomotive in the U.S. that has never been officially retired from a Class 1 railroad, departed Cheyenne, WY for Denver, CO. In the half hour before the 844 rolled out of town, two eastbound freights appear while one westbound headed out ahead of the shiny black 4-8-4 and it's 22-car train'.

(These clips will be featured in an upcoming episode of the TV series Trackside).

  • I think i saw the same steam locomotive a few years ago, in one of my usual trips to the US, in the State of Oregon, it was traveling from Beaverton to Hillsboro (can't remember how many miles are, between the 2 cities) one of my friends there, was driving and i ask him if he could follow the train, he did and i really enjoyed the spectacle of watching such a beautiful machine!

Love it, voted and favs! Thank you thecleaner001! As usual mate! Great post! :)

  • Oh great! I watched it twice. I'm trying to suss out what chord the siren is sounding. There's a nice dissonance somewhere. The yellow cars seem pretty new. Railroad travel looks more appealing and exciting than plane. Does TSA go into your pants in railroad stations too?

    • @ReplicantDeckard A young Cuban woman did just that to escape from Cuba. She got permission to go to the Bahamas so she went and from there she shipped herself to Miami. The box was very small but the trip didn't take long and she got out of the box inside the warehouse.

    • @ReplicantDeckard Yeah but since you said "better to climb into a box and fedex yourself" I told you about someone who did.
