Iran says it has agreed to a new round of talks on Iraq with the United States after receiving an offer through the Swiss Embassy.
Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki told reporters in a news conference that Iran has agreed to a new round of talks with the United States concerning Iraq after Washington made an official offer via the Swiss Embassy in Tehran.
"The Swiss Embassy in Iran passed on the US message to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, proposing a new round of talks on Iraq," he said.
Mottaki maintained, "Iran has agreed to this request within the framework of its policy of helping the Iraqi people."
"The exact date of the fourth round of the talks will be announced in the near future," he said.
Iran had made clear that new talks could only take place if an official request was submitted via the US Interest Section of the Swiss Embassy in Tehran.
