Uncle Salty
Old wrecks... a bit of history, keeping in mind that several people died, and many were injured.
Who am I kidding? Most all are dead at this point, even the survivors. Grim reality. I've been too close to death for comfort. I know what it looks/smells/sounds/feels like.
RIP

Old cars were built with very little regard for driver, passenger and pedestrian safety.

Awesome share! The one at 32sec really explains the saying 'wrapped around a power pole'... that musta been one damn strong pole coz those cars were made shiploads stronger back then.,,. few others wrapped around poles in there were hard core too, but that ones a stand out! Cheers :o)

@fuchajen "...cars were made shiploads stronger..."
Not really. The bulk of the car's strength was in the chassis. The body, which was bolted on to the chassis, was not reinforced, particularly on the sides of the passenger compartment. Look at the number of cars with doors sprung open or fenders ripped off.
They were heavier to be sure but modern design engineering produces considerably stronger structures even with lighter-gauge sheet metal.

@sjefke
There was no 'crumple zone' back then. Heavy frame, heavy metal body (sounds sexy) and no seat belt laws or airbags.
Ahh the good ol days

Lots of scrap metal. I don't think too many walked away from those crashes.

Back in those days accidents were called "crack ups".

1:11 James Dean, Porsche
2:18 1940 Ford Couple with Tri powered Flat head engine. Rare engine in its day.
I would give anything for this: 02:49
1947 Chrysler Town and Country Convertible Woody.
You cant see it in the pic, but the entire trunk lid is wood panel also.
Beautiful car.

The car is said to be cursed and supposedly continued killing people after Dean's wreck.

Good tune (love Toys In The Attic.) Too bad those 'worthless' wrecks couldn't have been saved. They'd be worth a small fortune today just for the parts.
