Excaliber was long awaited and definitely a huge leap in artillery technology. However, the ridiculous cost per shell may not be worth it, ($150,000 per shell vs. $2000 for the old stuff.) Furthermore, they are firing these from the old M-109 self propelled gun, a 40 year old platform. Artillery is the "Gof of war" as Stalin put it, but it seems to me, pardon the phrase, over-kill.

These systems are becoming so advanced that just one vehicle can do what is shown here with those multiple strikes landing almost on top of each-other.
They fire the first round at the highest possible trajectory that would have the longest possible flight time. Then they lower it and fire another, and lower it and fire another. And they all land at the same time. Pretty devastating.
