Jerusalem area fire contained; 4 Palestinians arrested

Over 40 firefighting squads, several planes extinguish large fire near Jerusalem.

Jerusalem Police: Four Palestinians arrested in connection with blaze. One month ago 2 Palestinian youth were arrested for several nature arsons around Jerusalem. They claimed they did it out of national motives.

Fire and Rescue Services Commissioner said that it is too early to determine what caused the recent fire. He noted that due to the fact that the fire originated at multiple sites, the authorities are looking into the possibility that arson was involved.-

Over 40 firefighting squads from Jerusalem and Beit Shemesh and two airplanes were deployed to the Even Sapir area to put out the blaze, and four other aircraft were said to be on their way to the scene. Fire and rescue services annouced that the flames have been contained around 5:30 pm.

Acting Jerusalem Police Commissioner Menny Yitzhaki said that four Palestinians have been arrested in connection with the fire. He noted, however, that the police is also looking into the possibility that the fire was caused by negligent behavior of hikers.

Jerusalem Fire Department Chief Captain Shmulik Friedman said that the Fire and Rescue Services are scarcely prepared to handle major blazes.

"Our equipment is old; some of our trucks should have been disposed of long ago. And we are experiencing a firefighter shortage. For a country like Israel, the situation is unacceptable," he said, adding that "without the firefighting planes we would have been in serious trouble."

Arik Abulof, a spokesman for the fire department, said earlier that the terrain surrounding the fire prevented access for fire trucks, and anticipated that it could take hours to put out the flames completely.

Several roads in the area were closed to traffic as the fire appeared to be progressing towards the town and the nearby Hadassah Ein-Kerem Medical center, although the authorities decided against ordering residents to evacuate.

Fire and Rescue Services Commissioner Shahar Ayalon arrived at the hospital, where a control center was established. He said that it is too early to determine what caused the fire. He noted that due to the fact that the fire originated at multiple sites, the authorities are looking into the possibility that arson was involved.

Police forces patrolled the wooded area near the fire in search of hikers.

If this was the first time Arabs are setting fires in Israel forests for national motives you could have claim the current arrest is random, racist ect.

But it is certainly not and since they were found near by, that is why the suspicion stands.

On the other hand most of the wild fires don't envolove the suspicion and arresting of Arabs in Israel- if your claim was true then each and every fire (hundreds of them) was cuasing to arrest Arabs...

It could've been hikers but there were some Palestinians nearby that we arrested anyway. Wow. These people truly are the Nazi's.

This is common sense.. If ANY CRIME takes place and suspicious individuals happen to be nearby, they would be brought in for questioning as well. Does it say anywhere the Palestinians have been charged with anything? As far as them being the Nazi's.. The Nazi's were funded by both US and British corporations and families, then the same families that funded hitler founded the UN, which then created the state of Israel for the Jews. The Jewish State was created by the same peopl More..

They were several arson cases recently in jerusalem area made by Palestinians.

Arabs making arsons in Israel for national motives is certainly not something new, you just don't get to hear about it in the global media (It is being ignored).

If they were arrested there was probably a base to arrest them, If they didn't do it eventually they will be released.

    • @hamburger Jewish Owned US media would be demanding any US police force who arrested some Mexican kids or Black kids near a fire that may have been started by white hikers be immediately released and would then go on about how racist the US is for arresting those kids.

So when the Jewish Media in the US screams racism at us here and they do not scream it in their own foreign nation, I say something about it. If you're going to preach it here, you will practice it there.

I know what you mean More..

  • And when the cops are chasing them god forbid they give them a little slap or kick for such destructive violence.. Remember that IDF soldier who lightly struck a Palestinian boy when captured? What if that boy was about to or did something like this? The Palestinians instigate every single thing they get in return..

      1) It was a large fire near residents area, but doesn't seems from the photos the fire had time to cuase any real damage to the forest.

      2) You claim you care about the Palestinians, and therfor should also care about their land (Palestine), yet you don't give a fuck about the land, which shows you only hate Israel, with out any relation to the Palestinians.

      3) As you can see I unblocked you, but if you will contniue with personal trolling in my items you will be blocked again, this More..

  • Fire and Rescue Services Commissioner said that it is too early to determine what caused the recent fire. but they still arrest four palestinians. if Israel is so concerned about its forrests....and they have that right to be concerned....why did they tear down the beautiful forrest where the settlement Har Homa stands now.

and why arrest 4 no matter their race or religion when the fire and rescue services commissioner says its too early to determine what caused the fire and the police comm More..

I can see your method here and it's bullshit- They were arrested for a clear suspicion. Doesn't mean they are the responsible (hence the commissioner words) but the heavy suspicion still stands, and you can't interogate someone with out arresting him (Just the same Jews are being arrested when they are suspects).

Palestinians and other Arabs setting fires in Israel for national motives is not something new and also not something rare.
Of course it doesn't mean that each and ev More..

this topic was about israel thats why i stuck to it...i am not going to bring up about americans tearing down our forests on a post about israel. if the forests get the highest protection from development why did they tear down the one to build har homa....and if i am not mistaken that forest might have even been a protected forest that had parts of it owned by palestinians who had the land taken from them....yes some of them sold their land in that area but not all of them.

      as for t More..

Where did the commisioner admits it was cuased by hikers....????

He says they simply checking all the options.

After 9/11 every Muslim behaving strange on a plane was a clear suspect and could even be arrested for interogation- After several wild arsons in Israel recently CAUSED BY PALESTINIANS, such Palestinians near by a blaze (which was started in several locations according to the report) are clear suspects, hence the arrest.
