Super-Cellophane

Marijuana smokers everywhere rejoice....

A Japanese company has developed an advanced plastic cellophane that promises to vastly extend the shelf life of fresh vegetables and fruit. By preventing the produce from losing moisture and eliminating excess CO2 buildup, Belle Green Wise’s new Aura Pack has been found to keep some fruits fresh for a whopping three to four months.

When produce loses moisture to evaporation it can become soggy, unappealing and starts to rot. But by preventing moisture in the produce from escaping, the new packaging helps it stay crisper and fresher for longer.

It also plays a hand in proper respiration, helping the fruits and vegetables shed excess CO2 which can in turn help prevent bruising. So not only does the Aura Pack help produce look its best on store shelving, it can also facilitate long distance transport, allowing stores to stock fruits and vegetables all year round even though locally they’re out of season.

  • That's some pretty awesome stuff, that's for sure. However, I don't see it being all that useful for bud. The bud should be dried anyways and therefore precipitation within the bag isn't a problem.

None the less, I really hope this starts to help with our worlds food waste problem. I know I've thrown out plenty of food that has gone bad before I've gotten to it.

Dope will last longer if it has a certain moisture level. I remember reading about a guy who makes airtight cannabis "humidors". I think he uses a water/ethylene glycol mix to maintain the correct humidity.

He probably means for the dealers. If your selling ounces then you don't want to be loosing any moisture at all because moisture is weight.

    • @DirtyUncleBerty I have to laugh every time i hear that. ever have a fresh burger off the grill from mc d's? its edible, dare i say even good once in a blue moon, but if you have the same burger after it has sat for about 5 - 10 minutes it has turned into that rancid greasy crap mc'ds is known for.

  • Food wastage is one of our biggest problems. Measured data shows we waste 40% of all food grown in developed countries. Some times for as mundane a reason as not "presentable" (Like a potato with a weird shape). If we eliminate this waste, then we wont need any "technology" per se to "extend" shelf life.

My ex French GF and I used to go to whole foods to pick up camembert and other cheeses the store were planning to throw away, because the "Best before" More..

    • @Baron_Kaz Not only "Best before" but "bad after" too, cheeses are pretty safe, and u can eat them even a long time after (depend ur taste), not to mention listeria is IN at beginning or never.
And there would be less danger in unpasteurized cheeses (the best btw, but alrdy not easy to find in France).

    • @Vell
They utilize CO2 during photosynthesis. At night they use O2 plus the nutrients created during photosynthesis to keep that wonderful THC biosynthesis ticking over. I guess a harvested vegie can't photosynthesize so it's stuck in aerobic respiration mode, using O2 and it's stored nutrients to try and stay alive. See this sometimes when I accidentally buy high-light plants for my low-tech aquarium. They'll grow like mad for days, using all their stored nutrients then suddenly melt into obli More..
