This video is part of an ongoing project to build a retrospective TV archive made exclusively for the LL community on my Retro TV channel at

This was originally broadcast from 1977 to 1984, not a bad run!
The formula for the Fantasy Island theme was quite long and interwoven with the beginning of the shows first 15 minutes or so. There were a few constants, the panorama with music of the Island and Tattoo yelling "Da Plane, Da Plane!" of course.
In most episodes we see Mr Roarke and Tattoo preparing to meet the guests with Mr Roarke introducing each guest and finally saying "Welcome to fantasy Island". Which meant the opening of the show was over. I attempted to include the most common recurring parts of the theme with credits in this Retro episode in order to capture that nostalgia.
Very interesting show, fun to watch. Guests would pay in order to go to this exotic locale to get what they want, in a twist they often got what they needed instead. Reminiscent of the rolling stones song
"No, you can't always get what you want.
But if you try sometimes,
you just might find,
you get what you need".
The song was released in 1969. So perhaps in some way it may have influenced the writers of Fantasy Island, or not. It's possible. A simple formulaic twist in the show which, IMO, puts this show heads above anything that's being broadcast today. Not to mention the snazzy white suits.

Why did tattoo get fried from Fantasy Island. He kept going up to all the girls and telling them "jee your hair smells terrific".

@2H2K
You're right, this series is centered on TV in the US. I have a few episodes that have retro shows from the UK that were broadcast in the US too. Like Space 1999, Benny Hill, Python, BlackAdder, Fawlty Towers, Are You Being served, Red Dwarf. Just to name a few. I had to make some hard choices on the scope of this project at the start. My access to source material made the choice of being US based necessary.
Still a lot of TV from the US made it to other countries also. So maybe not a c More..

Love to get my hands on that anyway. Terry must of been young in it too. I met Terry and Nana Visitor at a sci-fi convention once. I usually pay for backstage tickets if I'm going to go to one, can't always get them they're limited and costly too. You get to talk with stars in a small group setting though, usually about ten to twelve people.
If you ever get the opportunity I'd suggest it, I have some good memories doing that. I have a few memorable moments I'll tell you involvi More..

That's because most celebrities are not that interesting, I agree. Many are there just doing the PR thing trying to earn a buck and get through the day. But I've met some and had a few memorable moments. I actually go for the backstage access out of a sense of curiosity mostly. I don't collect autographs or handshakes or have my photo taken with them. But it can be interesting to talk to them if there is an opportunity.
