Hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Good Luck. I'm keeping an eye on this sucker. Living in Florida, you gotta. Once this bad girl gets out into open water, she'll gain steam, blow up into a wooly booger and no telling where she will go... I'd like her to make a hard right at some point and get lost in the Atlantic.
      Good Luck guys.

Projected to go right up the middle of our state (Fla). Shame it couldn't head off to Texas. They are the ones who really need the rain.

I never thought I'd say this after Ike. But I second your comment. We NEED it!

      Wanna trade states?

We have a high pressure dome over us that the weather babe says is going to take a change of seasons to weaken it and move away.

Here in the NW Florida Panhandle we're in a drought as well. We are getting the gulley washer and toad stranglers every couple a days for an hor but we are really low on precipitation. When Texas gets rain,we get rain. Every year I've been here I watched the radar and if a storm started in Corpus Christi, you could bet a paycheck it would run past Galveston, New Orleans,Biloxi,Mobile Al and Panama City in three days times.

Not this year. Not one so far. El Nina in full effect.

  • Also, they are putting alot of faith in the european hurricane track model, which historically in the last 7 years, been very poor. Meteorologists at the National Hurricane Center study a wide array of data and use experience and intuition to predict a hurricane's future path. Computer-generated weather models and measurements gathered by "Hurricane Hunter" aircraft play a major role.

    Four main models:

    GFDL
Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (Princeton, NJ)

  • I'll worry about it the day before it gets here. Thanks. Too many variables this early for me to get all crazy.

Really? Where are you in Florida? I start preparing three days out hardcore. Wife and I decide if she's leaving with the kids or not. Then by day two out, I'm in the EOC meetings for half the day. More really like cheerleading rally meetings to be honest, making sure all the 1st responders in the area,Utilities and Power guys are all on the same page. All the vehicles are gassed, windows borded up,generators working 100% etc etc...Pretty much hurry up and wait at that point. Once wi More..

Hell no! Im in Va. LOL! thats why I say I'll wait till it gets here before I freak out. the best I'll get from one of these usually is heavy rain and a watery basement.I feel for you folks that lie in the wake of the worst part of it. Thats why I tell my wife every time Im vacuming water "Ya know what, there's people a hell of alot worse off than I am right now". Stay safe F37R ! I hope the best for you in the coming storm.
