Detroit Gets Close Encounter With Jet -- Residents Mixed About Flyover
DETROIT -- The excitement at the annual speed boat races along the Detroit river Sunday wasn't confined to just the water.
A scheduled fly-over by an F-18 Navy jet was captured by a photographer and the picture is getting attention nationwide.
The picture shows the jet, turned sideways, zooming past a high-rise Detroit apartment complex. It appears to be very close to the building.
"It fe
More..lt like the sky was falling," said tenant Carol Stover, who saw the jet. "I looked up and saw the jet and I was praying we weren't under attack."
The picture, which appeared in the Detroit News, New York Post and on the "Today" show Monday, was taken by Detroit News photographer Steve Perez.
"As I was going back to edit I saw it and it just kind of jumped out (at you)," said Perez. "It's one of those things that's just timing and luck."
Tenant Inez Brown watched the fly-over from her balcony on the 28th floor. "I didn't get the perspective that they were that close. I was like a kid in the candy store. I got a chance to see some professional fighter pilots in action and that's something you don't see everyday. They did some phenomenal maneuvers."
According to the military, the jet was actually about 200 to 300 feet away from the shoreline. Authorities said no one on the ground or in a building was ever at any risk.

how many people remember that story of a jet dropping a dumby bomb on that apartment building a couple years back. That one made me worry.

was at work when the plane was doing it's test runs, i work down the street from the bridge. Pretty loud but shit, nothing to get all worried about. I thought it was pretty cool.

I see army jets flying by at least once a week.
Last week there was an interview with an American band at a festival, those guys went nuts when a jet flew over, they had never seen that before.
Weird.

Oh, come on, as if that would go unnoticed.
No one has the means to bring war to America, maybe the Japanese do but they don't have their minds set to war at the moment, so you can relax a bit.

Because someone photoshopped the guy out of it and cropped and photoshopped the tree out as well.
Not sure why they removed the guy, it's a better shot with him in it.
But it was probably to get around the copyright factor since the photo is from AP.

Detroit Rock Pussies. These tools should be happy to see something besides commercial air traffic. I feel lucky to see dozens of f15-E and A10 warthogs daily here in Boise, ID. Everytime they fly over my house I run outside like a little kid to go watch. Good times!
