3 year old girl in Airgun Shooting 'tragic accident'

Airgun shooting 'tragic accident'

The Normacot Hotel has been sealed off
The shooting of a three-year-old girl in a pub in Stoke-on-Trent has been described as a "tragic accident".
Officers have said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident at the Normacot Hotel.

Doctors contacted police after the girl was taken for emergency treatment for what looked like a head wound caused by an air gun pellet.

Police have spoken to another child who was in a bedroom with the girl at the time and a weapon has been recovered.

'Sensitive investigation'

The girl has been taken to the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham where her condition on Tuesday evening is described as stable.

Police said the girl was in a bedroom in a private area of the pub when Monday evening's incident took place.

Det Insp Wayne Jones described it as a "sensitive investigation" but it appeared to be a tragic accident.

"We have had an account of the incident from the other child in the room at the time and information from other aspects of the investigation support that account," he said.

"We are still working to establish the circumstances which lead to the discharge of the weapon and we are working to support the family at this distressing time."

  • A kid got shot in Vancouver a few years back, possibly a random shot by an airgun. He died 30 seconds after the shooting because it entered under his shoulder blade and nailed an artery. He bled out almost instantly, he only had time to dial 911.

And to think of all the times I've been shot by airguns and nothing has ever come of it.

  • lol, we ALL had BB and pellet guns when I was a kid.

Even bigger LOL, I knew a guy that got his eye shot out.

But we were made of stronger stuff in those days and a few BBs and pellets didn't keep us down.

Nowadays if one of you precious tykes even looks too hard at a BB gun you start to hemorrhage out the eyes and ears.

    "tragic accidnet"... Indeed.

    • @Fonsini They already restrict the power output to 12ft/lbs muzzle energy (about 650 feet per sec. in .22) That's plenty for hunting rabbits and such but rarely fatal against a human at distance with clothing. Note the wording, "tragic" but the kid is still alive. Also WTF does "recovered" mean? What, the airgun was missing? Did it drop down a fucking hole or something?
