(January 14th, 2011) German tourist captures raw footage on board the cruise ship during the blackout and the ship over loud speakers informing the passengers of an "electrical malfunction" when in fact little did they know the Concordia was sinking. Also evacuations orders were being given. Seems to be the most telling vid so far, showing the response by the ship crew and it's passengers inside the Coasta Concordia. 17 People are still unaccounted for. News and info below.

Video shot by a German passenger on the Costa Concordia cruise ship soon after the ship ran aground shows passengers being informed of an "electrical fault" and the following evacuation operation.

The ship, with more than 4,000 people on board, capsized after hitting a rock.

"On behalf of the captain to inform you that due to an electrical fault, which is currently under control, we are currently in a blackout," is the announcement heard on the video.

"Our technicians are working to resolve the situation and we will inform you of developments as they occur. Thank you for your attention", the announcement continued.

The video shows large numbers of people gathered at one of the ship's meeting points, wearing life vests and waiting for evacuation.

Passengers had just sat down to dinner, a few hours after leaving the port of Civitavecchia near Rome on a week-long cruise to Barcelona and Majorca, when a loud bang interrupted the piano player and the ship began to list.

The ship was carrying mainly Italian passengers, but also British, Germans, French, Spanish, Americans and others. Many were elderly and some were in wheelchairs.

Passengers have said they had been given little or no information in the immediate aftermath of the ship running aground.

Two French tourists and a Peruvian crew member were known to have died. On Sunday the bodies of two elderly men were found on the ship. There was confusion about the number of people still unaccounted for. The president of the Tuscan region said the number stood at 17 but other estimates were as high as 34.
