@tomtipton I have lived in tornado alley all my life and I would not live without a basement. With an EF5 and no basement your survival is slim.

I wonder if those dancing sparks were downed wires or metal being blown so hard it sparks when striking the concrete? If it was metal, yikes. Never saw that before.

For anyone not ever being in a tornado, think of an atomic bomb blast without the heat and radiation. First a wall of wind, then as the tornado passes, the twisting, back surge of air. The worst damage is usually on the backside of the funnel when the suction is the greatest.
This is the point at which your house will lift and have the contents sucked out. Lived through 2 of them, but nothing this big. This Joplin went on for nearly 3 minutes on the front side, then another 2 minutes of back su More..
