Police dash cam captures mountain lion roaming neighbourhood street

Police dash cam:December 05/09.CHAMPLIN, Minn, After responding to a call, a Twin Cities police officer caught a glimpse of a cougar and has video proof from his dash cam.

A Champlin Police officer was driving near East River Parkway and Dowlin Street around 5 a.m. Saturday when he saw a large animal run across Highway 169.

At first, the officer thought it was a dog but after following the animal as it ran toward the Mississippi River, the officer said the animal was a large feline.

Champlin Police notified the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources of the sighting.

Police said the animal was never threatening but they urge people who may see it to stay away from it and to call police if they see it.

Residents should also be aware the cougar could consider small pets as prey.

  • Wow! Even here where I live, you get some scant reports of mountain lions, but most of the time its misidentified by people who are ignorant of what certain animals look like (ignorant is not a bad word here, just the truth).

This on the other hand is amazing.

    • Same here, i live in Colorado and hear about sightings all the time, many are false....don't like the idea of these big fuckers wondering around residential areas though.

    • people are getting so fat their eyes are starting see things... maybe it's the fat on their forehead sinking over and slowing down the vision...

Anyhow, I reckon wild animals shouldn't be in our backyards

    • I live in Colorado and just the other day someone had to report a Mountain Lion just 30 miles West of where I am (Denver Metro Area). When the Wildlife officers saw the pictures (the Cougars had left at that point), they were surprised to see not one, but THREE Mtn. Lions hanging out in front the homeowner's car! I would have had to call in sick that day!

    • With suburban sprall this is what ya get. Less open habatit means less hunting ground so they are fored in neighborhhods to look for food and cats dogs and little kids or mountian biker and hickers that venture out of the neighborhoods become dinner. We get reports her in the LA and OC frecquently about these large cats in neighborhoods.
