Another Reason Why The Elderly Should Not Be Driving

A Florida woman forgot which pedal was the gas and which one was the brake. Considering she ran her car into the front of a 7-11 store it can be assumed she made the wrong choice.

  • As the days go by toward the majority of Americans being seniors - it is vitally important that the youth of our FUCKED UP SOCIETY out there take the lead and individually "adopt" an elderly person.

Not to many of our youth today will even consider that but I think the time will come where it will be COOL to watch out for an old person's welfare.

  • I would like to hear from some British LL'ers on this one.

I was told that in England once a person reaches the age of 75 they are done driving, period. No exceptions.

    Is this true?

Makes perfectly good sense to me. Old people on the road are a worse hazard than drunks.

There's currently no upper age limit in UK, although with the ever increasing old-aged population this is bound to change eventually.

One idea is to enforce regular driving tests and/or eye tests beyond a certain age, to weed out drivers whose abilities may have become impaired.

My dad claimed that his father could legally drive having never taken any lessons, as he held a license, but was born before official driving tests became mandatory.

This may be true, or perhaps he More..

I feel at the very least there should be an eye test, a test of reaction time and a test of cognizant ability.

This should be done annually for everyone over 70. Every six months for drivers over 80. If they don't like it too freakin' bad.

Driving is a privilege, not a right. The blue hairs and geezers are killing a lot of people out there on our roads and this shit has got to stop.

As it stands here in New York State a person can renew their license by mail without being se More..

We've been through this before. Some states have something similar but not as strict as you like.

      "Older drivers: licensing renewal provisions

Initial licensing procedures vary substantially in the United States. Renewal procedures, however, are not as varied. Generally, an applicant's driving record is checked to ensure there are no suspensions or revocations and, if not, the person pays a renewal fee and gets a new license. In addition, most states require renewal app More..
