  • Well, I hate to spoil something so magical... It is a device that hooks into the stage, that has a leg brace build into it. So, you step the peg into the hole in the stage, and lean back onto the hinged support. Micheal Jackson used simpler rigs than this in “Smooth Criminal”. Google “Smooth Criminal Forward Leaning Move" To see that rig.

Indian fakirs had a rig similar that would make it look as if they were levitating. Instead of using their leg, they would have a wooden staff t More..

  • They have a degree-limited folding aparatus on their leg and they latch it into a hole in the stage. Simple and effective. Michael Jackson used similar tricks for his lean.

  • Looks like they may have some sort of leg brace that snaps into the ground on their left legs. Notice how they never move that one.

    • @Rikki_Tikki_Tavi

Yup, I immediately thought of the Indian dudes levitating with their cane rigs.

  • I would imagine it is achieved similar to Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal forward lean thing, their shoes lock into the stage and they have some kind of leg brace under their skirts which become rigid enough to support them when they sit down...

  • It does not require a degree in rocket science to figure this mystery out. Enter the girls with the distraction of the caped men as they insert their hidden seat leg into the floor. Gee why are they all wearing bell bottomed pants, hummmmm

    • @f89276704 You are CORRECT!!! They can CLEARLY be seen placing their left feet with great precision. There must be a device (pole) up the leg to a seat already on their ass. They are able to bend it 90 degrees at the knee and lock it. Still requires some practiced balance to sit on it.

  • Seat and frame is inside the pants. They stick the end piece into an opening on the floor and then lean back. Neat trick. Also used in things like the "floating pose", where the support goes through the shirt and sleeves into a pole that the floating whatever "only uses to keep from floating away."

This was a performance related to the Shanghai Expo 2010, BTW.

  • Easy, chair is inside pants. Bendable post...

  • If you watch closely, they drop a heel into sockets in the floor. A hinged bracket is inside the trousers.

Very slick, fun effect. Dazzling show.

Hollywood used to do lots of things like this. I suppose it fell out of fashion; or was it simply costly?

  • I think I know what it is... I recall seeing another video on here from china where they use electro-magnets to suspend liquids and metals mid air... perhaps there is something within their outfit that's reacting to electro-magnets from the floor?

I like the theory that it was socket attatched to a hingned bracket within the trousers... that one sounds believable aswell.

But I'm going with electro-magnets 'cause that would be cool as fuck.

  • Its a pole running from the ground up their pantleg and then has a tiny seat on their ass. I dunno how they unhook it from the ground when they need to walk though. Fake swamis do this in india to pretend they r levitating. Only what they do is pretend their staff is on the ground when really their staff is fixed to the ground.

  • at 1:03 - 1:07 you see the musicians moving their left foot onto metal pins on the floor, inside the heel and soles of their tightly strapped on rigid shoes there is a recepticle for the pin. Up their trouser leg and onto their bum they have flexible strengthened bamboo plank which in turn is attached to their shoe. Simply lean back on the bamboo and sit. It's the same concept as the Micheal Jackson lean.

  • This is one thing the Chinese are good at. As to the "I'm having a shit while I'm playing and sitting on a hidden metal pole", this must be really uncomfortable....
