I don't understand the logic - how would Israel get the US to "nuke" Egypt and start a war with Russia by deliberately attacking a US navy ship. Surely the Israelis are not that dumb - that leaves the question was it not really an honest mistake and hence the cover-up to prevent public outcry? To me this story with it's title looks like anti-Israeli propaganda.

@Asterix Israeli fighter jets and torpedo boats covered their insignias and ensigns and attacked the USS Liberty. They wanted to make it look like the Egyptians did it so the US would attack them. It was not an honest mistake. They attacked the ship for 2 hours with machine guns, cannons, torpedoes and naplam. They even shot the stretcher bearers who were moving the wounded.

Sure that's what happened and no one denies the tragedy but to think that such a large scale attack could be done undercover and not be compromised sounds ridiculous and like wishful thinking. The risk just seems to have been too high.
