  • You need a license to have a fuckin television?!!? What...The...Fuck?!?!

    • @Danny112288 You can have as many televisions you want without any license - you just have to pay an amount that funds the public broadcaster if you have any televisions.
And BBC is one of the best media in the world (if you exclude the fact that are left-wing bitches)... so, and on behalf of any in the rest in the world, thank you British citizens for paying!

    • @zAbArAkAtrAnEmIA_TheGreat

Their sales to networks outside of the UK are used to enrich the BBC, not the license holder.

    • @chrisfrd True, they have a lot of profits from selling their great programs outside of UK, but the amount from the license holders is still a significant part of their total budget.

    • @Danny112288 This is insane! I couldn't imagine some company demanding they enter my home to see if I have a TV. I disconnected my cable because there was nothing but crap on it anyway. All I need for entertainment is Netflix and LiveLeak!

    Seriously?
And that's ok with you all over there?

    Holy crap.

    • @wharris Its not ok but as the bbc were the first and only channels they were paid by the public, now we have lots of other channels who gain revenue from advertising, while the bbc still expects us to continue to pay them.Im not sure of the laws around it but cannot understand why on earth the government would give private companies power in law to do such a thing. It needs to change.

  • LOL

The UK cracks me up. "Americans are living in a police state. They can't even go to the airport without beings searched and their police have guns. So much for a free society......whoops, i'll be right back, the office of toilet inspection needs to invade my home and check if I flushed more than three times today".

    • @Eternal21 Mate, its a bill. Thats all it is, like if you didn't pay your cable bill. Its not a license to have a TV, thats retarded.
Its just called that because of when live tv first came out (BBC being the first broadcaster).
You can choose not to pay it, in which case you cannot receive any BBC channels. Thats all.

    • @patrickww99

So then why did he say when he first opened the door "we need to check if you have a TV".

Obviously the suggestion is having the TV would have been a crime.

    • @Bigbuddha1111 I dont know if you are referring to someone or in general but no country is much better than others and all have their problems. Every country is fucked up to some degree or everyone in the world would be living there. There's lack of "freedom" everywhere the same as there is crime.

If someone trolls just ignore them.

FYI, its a bitch to get searched here too and we do have armed police but not all of them, probably around 10-20%.

So really they have no valid reason to trespass other than "they want to" and "the judge signed a warrant".

  • I feel so good about £2m being paid to BBC executives as pay offs for a crap job. It's our hard earned money lining the pockets of these plebs.

Scap the TV Licence. Get commercially aware. In the age of the Internet, very difficult to prove watching TV.

A TV Licence is just stupid and the laws behind it even worse.

You guys need to rise up and fight this crap, get the laws change. in 1775 we fought for our independence, I think it's time for our brethren to fight for there independence against oppression. RISE UP MY BROTHERS FROM ACROSS THE GREAT POND!

  • They should give us a choice of only watching channels we want to; IE block the BBC channels if we wish and just get the channels we pay for via sky or the ones we WANT on freeview. We are FORCED to have BBC and FORCED to pay for it.

    • @hussaruk Sounds like the cable providers in the US. You want certain channels, but they come "bundled" with a bunch of BS stations such as home shopping network, 24/7 religious channel, etc.

It maybe be wasting time but its the bbc who started it, If you dont watch the bbc then you DON'T have to pay for it! f they establish they have a tv then how are they gonna determin they have been using it to watch the bbc??

  • What absolute, utter drivel. By comparison, I live in England, I work in the legal sector, and although I own a television, it is NOT connected to any form of receiver/aerial, and I use it solely as a display mechanism for my Xbox 360, thus I do not need a licence. Simply, I do not pay any TV Licence fee/s, and have no intention of doing so. The TV Licencing/Capita company have routinely demanded my details and I have politely refused on principle, as I firmly believe that the BBC and/or their r More..

I know you limeys are very thin skinned about your country, but come on you have to admit the guy in question is an asshole, but all those men for a TV fee. It's not like he forgot to pick up after his dog for crying out loud.

And if you don't watch or own a TV this company badgers you to madness with threatening letters and surprise 'visits' some people give in and pay £145 per year just to stop their bullying tactics.
