Count 'em, 284 episodes in all. This show aired on NBC from 1957 to 1962, then on ABC from 1962 to 1965. Which is a considerable run in all.
I've included two separate intros to the show here, an older one from the ABC broadcast days for you old timers and one that's not as old from the ABC days for you old timers. lol. The series was inspired by the film Wagon Master, which itself is from the tradition of films like the 1930 saga The Big Trail with John Wayne.
This show was black and white for most of it's broadcast seasons. Though for the seventh season it went color to help RCA promote sales of color TV's, RCA was the parent company. The shows popularity increased, then going back to black and white in it's eighth and final season really cut into it's ratings. Wonder which executive made that stupid move?
Westerns ruled the airwaves at this time. So there's more to come.

Jerome Moross, the composer of the theme for Wagon Train also wrote the theme for the movie The Big Country.

Really good film too. Quintessential western pioneer flick.
