ANPR cameras have been around in the uk since the 80s, every major city you drive into now has these all over the place!

@__dave__ They're talking about using gas station cameras now and cross-checking insurance databases for uninsured drivers.

In my younger days, watching all these sci-fi movies, tv shows, I thought the future would be kewl with these technologies (if it will ever happen). Now that it is here and happening, I am now uncomfortable with it. It is not so kewl.

POLICE STATE.
Its not about speeding, its not even about breaking the law. ITS ABOUT THE 4th AMENDMENT.
If you accept this notion because you'll be safer, then why not accept the notion of a camera in your house to keep you safe from domestic abuse, rape, home robberies, etc. Dont be fooled by the governments good intentions. Follow the constitution and we will do fine like we have for the first 150-160 years. Not so much the last 50 though.

Very cool, but our technology is pushing us ever closer to an "Orwellian" society. Way too goddamn close, if you ask me.

@Fred Flintstone The worst part is, half the people are convinced that, "Big Brother" watching you, is a good thing.

@leadfoot88 No shit. That's the really scary part. People need to read George Orwell's works... That's exactly how it happens!

One has to wonder if the licence plate and time information is saved in a database and used for tracking.

@Penguinister You bet they store it and can data-mine that crap. This is how they track suspects retroactively in the UK. That and other things like massive databases of all phone calls, text messages and transactions.
Now and then a technology comes along that trips them up, like Skype, and they publish a "request for proposals" to crack and track the calls (true story).

@Penguinister They have that here is Sweden. I figure that was the plan with putting up speed cameras, to log traffic, but setting up the infrasturcture sneakily. And they use it as an argument in favor of tracking internet traffic as well. "we track your every move with a car, and you don't mind, so why not let us track your every move on the internet too?" That's how I learned you can't even travel by car without being tracked by the government. Governments are disgusting things.

Careful when your driving? YOU ARE BEEN WATCHED!
Remain legal & calm. In the uk they have employed facial recognition software into big-brother cctv systems. It's getting to a point where its like Minority-report ffs!
The system in the uk is also connected to ANPR technology which checks the vehicle has insurance & valid MOT.
