"New York Health Department investigations of newborns with the herpes virus from 2000 to 2011 have shown that 11 infants contracted the virus when mohels placed their mouths directly on the child’s circumcision wound to draw blood away from the circumcision cut, according to a statement from the department. Ten of the infants were hospitalized, at least two developed brain damage and two babies died."


The practice is known as oral suction, or in Hebrew, metzitzah b'peh: after removing the foreskin of the penis, the practitioner, or mohel, sucks the blood from the wound to clean it.

  • I would comment on this and say how I really feel, but there is at least one pro-Jewish mod out there that has it out for me. Gave me an infraction for a derogatory comment I made about Israel. Ran it by Hayden and he said I shouldn't have received that infraction, but told me to just wait until the end of the month and it will fall off.

    Since I can't say how I really feel, I will enjoy everyone else's comments.
