Greatest Generation.
That old joke about the WWII vet being hassled in a French airport comes to mind.
French customs agent: "But sir, everyone needs to show a passport, even Americans"
American WWII Vet: "I'm sorry, you see the last time I was here, storming the beaches at Normandy to liberate this country, I couldn't find a single Frenchman to show my passport to"

@URmomsOBGYN I know about this incident and your version might be altered to make US look better. It is a real story, however it happened on a cruise ship and the guys weren't WW2 participants.
The ship lay on a port in France and the US idiots did not have a Visa, thinking that they can move visa-free everywhere in the world, because it's their "god's given" right. In result, the US idiots were denied entry to France.
Good and nice story, showing the pathetic behavior of average Jo More..

@AttackingMeow Um, no sorry pal. Let me know if you can come up with an example of Belarus contributing to this world in a positive way.... Oh, and I found the real story for you:
Robert Whiting, an elderly gentleman of 83, arrived in Paris by plane. At French Customs, he took a few minutes to locate his passport in his carry on.
"You have been to France before, monsieur?" the customs officer asked sarcastically.
Mr. Whiting admitted that he had been to France previously.
"Th More..

Sorry, I'm not impressed. Photo's are fine but most of them very well known and easy to find. Put them in a powerpoint with a misleading title and voila, you have a video on LL.
The photo's are of all the D-day beaches not only Omaha.
And what are "amazing real pictures"? Are there also amazing unreal pictures?

Very few non-Americans commenting here. I, for one, am very offended hearing so many Europeans say that we barely showed up or made a difference, it was almost over, it was won already, etc. Every one of our grandfathers who died there means at least one of yours got to live. I don't expect you to say we won it entirely, I know we did not. But at least admit that we made a good deal of difference, in a land far away from ours. We were already fighting your enemy's ally in the Pacific. We didn More..

@NameUserNot instead of helping you was to busy getting us in debt. everything that you did was helping nobody but yourselves. the little help you did give we needed to pay for in full. world war 2 started in 1939 the usa didn't join till 1941 can you imagine all the lives that would of been saved if you joined when you was needed and not when it was over.

@NameUserNot Don't worry , we respect what your grandfathers did and are very grateful.
I can't say I speak for all europeans of course , but those who say what you've done wasn't necessary are idiots.

@NameUserNot As I European I have never heard anyone express this opinion (that the USA was not needed to win the war). In fact it is so obvious that the USA paid a huge price to help liberate mainland Europe. I'm Irish and my grandfather fought in WW2 in the RAF and I have been living in France for 20 years and I truly believe that France has not forgotten and will never forget the price paid by the Allies to liberate France. You just have to visit and Allied war cemetery in France to realise t More..

Most of those guys set sail from my home town (I think the picture at 5.20 is Weymouth Quay in Dorset). We have a memorial on the sea front in honour of all those brave men with an eternal light on top. Recently it was refurbished and had to be dismantled, the workmen erected scaffolding and before beginning any work they mounted a light on top of the scaffolding so that the eternal light would continue to burn, amazingly they were not asked to do this by the council, they did it purely out of t More..

Respect.
Every American should visit the D-Day landing areas once in their lifetime to reflect upon the sacrifices made for the World.
