ANOTHER VIET NAM SLIDE SHOW FROM SLOOP

Most of these images were loaned to me from some of my Bros in the Platoon but some of them are mine, too. CAUTION! A couple of them might be a bit disturbing for some.

Don't you wish it was true? (I do)

  • Thanks for your service Sloop and showing the truth of hard work, fear, misery, and the daily battle to stay alive through which only pictures can do. Some people forget that the average age of the US combat soldier was only 19. He was expected to follow orders, do his job, deal with problems, fight in combat, deal with the loss of friends, and come back home and try to be normal. Thats a tall order to ask of such young men. God bless.

  • Damn, Sloop, it always shocks me how young we were back then.... and I guess how old we must be now. It wasn't that long ago the WW2 vets were our age.... and when we were going to Vietnam the WW1 vets were our age. Now they are gone and many of the WW2 guys are gone... life sure goes by fast... we can measure it by the wars we get sent into. Once again, welcome home my friend.

  • mostly instamatic stuff with that special reddish kodak touch. seems like centuries ago. good tune. i watched all the b/w reports of this conflict with fascination on tv and read all about it as a teenager. when many us installations in germany shut down in the 90ies, i was able to get almost the whole stock from leighton barracks library, unit 26230 to complete my collection, like all the bernard fall books on vietnam and lots of personal accounts. i feel sorry for the men who died in this conf More..

    • I lived near a base here in the states - you think a B52 is big, you should see the C5A Galaxies go over - freaking huge.

  • After receiving a couple of PM's and reading some of the comments left on the thread I feel a need to explain a little bit about the dead female in the show. That was NOT a child. She was an adult woman who was armed as were her three comrades. In other words they were VC and would have killed some of us had we not killed them. War is a tragic thing. As I've said many times before, I loved the Vietnamese people and miss them dearly.
I can't possibly go back through and reply to all the comm More..

    • That was the only really disturbing image in the slide, because she looks like a 6-year-old child. Now that you have explained I feel a little less bad.
