When I served in Bosnia in 1996, we were based in the small village of Gornij Vakuf, which is a few miles down the road from Bugojno. The whole area was ripped apart from war, and our tiny detachment was in the middle trying to keep the peace. Makes me think that growing up there at that time would harden your outlook on life.

Never heard of black humour? used all the time to get over horrendous situations. Doctors and Nurses use some of the most insulting terminology to get over the human tragedy of their work, more so for combat medics.
Whether she really enjoyed it or not is debatable, but the fact remains that humans will always use humour to overcome bad situations.
