See that photo above? It’s a photo of a plaque that used to be at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial in Poland.
The plans to open a museum and memorial at Auschwitz began almost immediately after the end of World War II. An act creating the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum was passed by the Poles in 1947 and later that year, in support of the creation of Israel, the museum opened with its first exhibit in Auschwitz I.
