(Telegraph) Dozens of people turned out to watch the collapse of three cooling towers and chimney, which have been a fixture of the east Kent skyline for the last 50 years.

The demolition, which took 18 months to plan, was over in less than a minute on Sunday after experts set off sequenced explosions at the base of the 300ft (100m) towers. Richborough power station, near Sandwich, was opened in 1962 to generate energy from local coalfields. Despite the demolition, the site will continue to provide power in the future as the plant owners plan to build a green energy park in the towers' place.
