My 75 gallon aquarium
 Part of channel(s): Yoursay (promoted)

Here is my 75 gallon tank i set up for my turtle. I had some toad tadpoles in there to but it looks like the turtle and mud skippers already had a feast. I just fixed one of the corner filters while i was uploading. There was a leech (turtle food) stuck in the pump.

  • Oh I love this. I used to Google for turtle habitats just to look at them. Does this species of turtle bask on the rocks like a red slider? Does he bother those shiners? Very nice set up. Clean too. Love you use natural plants too.

    • @Grace37 As far as basking goes, it he will spend some time out of the water. Most the time he is in the water or even burried in the gravel with his nose sticking out. The turtle really don't bother anything in there because i feed it well. Thanks for watching!

    • @-sloop- You got it Buddy! I got a 3 finger glass just for you!!!!

Man, we got some big ass Turtles. Over the yeas I have seen a couple that were big as the top of a 55 gallon drum. They have "hands" as big as a grown man. I dont see many Alligator, maybe 4 or 5 times a year. But Damn, they are something out of the prehistoric past. Their necks are bigger than my forearm!
But I got all those little eat you bait shitheads that eat minnows and grab your line. They are a pain in the ass More..

    • @hotjobz Man Ive seen a few with shells as big as the top of a 55 gallon drum. I really dont mess with them. They can be quite old when that big. I really like to watch them. Sounds weird but Ive watched them mate. It is awful to watch. The make is meaner than hell to the female. But I guess that is nature.
I love on Chickamauga Lake and you wouldnt believe the shit I see sometime. ha ha ha I love nature!

    • @tat2d I had a regular snapping turtle years back. I caught it when it was a hatchling. Got to be about 8 inches across the shell. I dug a hole deep enough to put in a kiddy pool at ground level. Then i put chicken wire fence around it. Had hiding spots for it and everything. It climbed over the fence and let himself go. lol

  • pretty damn cool. I actually like your setup, I have seen a few aquariums in my day but never one that showcased land based aquatic criiters. You need a Gator.I have never seen a mud skipper before. Off to google I go.

    • @Fire37Rescue Hey thanks! Yea those skippers are comical. They have good eye sight. They will see a cricket in one of the bamboo plants and jump in the air to get it. lol

That's what they tell me. My wife has had Turtle soup a lot being from NOLA, but I've never tried it.
I see them all the time but they haul ass if they see you coming. They really stick out in ponds because they stick that long snout straight up in the air.All along my creek next to my house and draining ditches we have them.I get Painted Box turtles and tortoises in my yard all the time.

  • Beautiful tank. Turtles can be messy. How often do you clean it to keep it looking that good?

    Posted Jun-20-2012 By

    • @littlebuzz Now that it is established, I do a 20% water change every 2 weeks. I also use a scratch resistant scrub pad and clean the glass at the water line. The filters i change about every 3-4 weeks. Thanks for watching!

    I like this kinda stuff.

Can't even grow plants let alone look after aquatics.

Please do some videos about the basics of looking after these.

Is it good to completely re-arrange the tank (once in a while) for instance, or do they like familiar habitats?

Is the feed a constant type, or do you vary it?

Apart from the constant oxygenation, would they also like a current in the tank?

    • @ommadawn When i caught my turtle, i jumped online right away and within a few minutes i learned it was a "spiny soft shell turtle." It took maybe another 10 minutes to find out what they eat and what i would need to house them. So now any new creature i get, i have a new set of conditions i have to meet or come close to meeting. The trick is to find a happy medium amoungst all the creatures habitats. For example, the mud skippers and the crabs water is naturally brackish. These ones h More..
