That's what I'm thinking too. Given that, in most states you can actually be charged with something for interfering in such fights, whether you are off duty police or not.
They did the right thing. I'm sure if weapons were drawn or any attempt to take a life was taken they would have intervened, and that's exactly what the laws usually call for.
