Journalists Marie Colvin and Remi Ochlik 'die in Homs'

SOS message from Khaled Abu Salah Translated :

“These are the bodies of the American journalist Marie Colvin and this is the French journalist Remi Ochlik. They are martyrs of the random shelling on the neighborhood of Baba Amro … There are others injured, among them the journalist Edith who works for Le Figaro.”

He raises his fist defiantly and calls for urgent aid to treat the wounded in Baba Amro.

“I am sending a message to the European Union to move immediately. The blood of your own has mixed with Syrian blood. You need to move now,” he shouts.

  • Ochlik was an incredible photographer. Just won a world press award for his series on Libya's revolution. Incredible images here:

  • You cheered when 911 happened and now you want help. Fuck off!

    • @Drill-n-Kill Hmmm.... you have apoint there. They certainly never helped with our response to 9-11, but that was the Assad regime.

Exactly. I've always been of the opinion, since childhood, that Syria is bad, Jordan is (more or less) good. And that went for the people, too; not just the governments. Syrian people have hated us for as long as the Iranian government has.

  • war zone reporting is risky business...rip.

  • It's very unfortunate but bound to happen. Colvin was one of the few journalists with the (courage?) to enter the world's most dangerous areas just to get the unfiltered truth out to the hungry masses. Though her contributions were/are invaluable she ended up paying for them with her life. R.I.P.

    • @jumping jehosaphat

And let's remember that the unfiltered truth broadcast before she was murdered by Assad was that Assad was shelling civilians in Homs and sending out snipers to murder them too.

  • If you're a war reporter, a violent death is a professional risk you're taking.

Some one-fingering Allah follower might also make good use of your dead body. Professional risk.

If you think it's always best to go report on things from the perspective of the bad guys, the jihadis, the wanna-be-shaheeds, the decision to get killed by the supposedly evil enemies or your chosen allies was made long ago. It's quite probably sad, but it was also inevitable.

While it's absolutely probable they died More..

War Correspondents are far more valuable to this guy when they are alive and reporting than when they are dead and bleeding.

    • @Well_Red No contest on that factoid, but please understand that a reporter 'embedded' into djihadi, al-qaeda, hisbollah or an otherwise fanatical bunch can easily be considered fair game for the slightest slip-up. Some of the beards wielding AK-47 take offense at the presence of a Western female, even if she's willing to further their cause. We don't know what happened, and it's highly probable we never will.

  • I'm sad to see so many people dying, both Syrians and others like these journalists, BUT don't bow to the pressure and help them. These are the same kind of Muslims that will stab you in the back if you do anything that they perceive as offensive to them or their religion.

Just look at how apeshit those Afghans are getting because the US military burned a bunch of old qurans and we have to go out of our way to apoligise to these neanderthals. I mean that's just fucked up that you'd go so nuts b More..

    • @John_Matrix i pretty much agree with everything you said until you made big differences between christians and muslims.

for the most part i see and agree with what you're saying - christians being more rational than muslims, etc. i personally would not distinguish between religions as they are all crazy people with backward mentalities. all fundamentalist religious nuts should be tarnished with the same brush in my opinion.

they are all degenerate fuck wits that should be eradicated.

    • @skam Yah, religion should be a private and personal thing, IMO, it should not be represented as it was and still is nowadays, by mouthy priests-politicians; religion should discretely be on the side of life. If you're religious and your faith steers your actions in any way, good for you, however, if your values helped you to figure out that going from A to B is best done with X, then go explain why X is the best way to go in a open and rational way that everyone can accept, but don't say " More..

  • Most of the comments here say "nuke that shit country".

I say nuke the country that invades other countries for resources.

    Leading country in invading is?

    USA.

  • "The blood of your own has mixed with Syrian blood. You need to move now, he shouts" Oh yea beacause two journalists died then the west reaaaally needs to attack syria. Dumbass

    • @cra There's a difference between being a dumbass and being desperate.
Being desperate is using anything you've got in front of you to try and get help.
Being a dumbass is being unable to comprehend genuine desperation.

  • what do they want europe to do? syrians have shown alot of cheering for both the towers, madrid and london bus bombings. the muhammed drawing as well. hate, flagburning and calling westerners "satan" and infidels. its amusing that EVERYTIME the muslims want something done, they call for the west. when the west arrives, its not good enough, and they "didnt want this". let them burn. if they really HAD support, they win. truth most likely is that the muslim brotherhood, fanatic More..

Sorry, but I don't remember Syrians cheering for any of the bombings and, believe me, I would remember. I would love to see your sources to back up that claim.

i smoke 'erb but i'm not socialist scum. i agree with you to a certain extent and along with all forms of organized and extremist religion, despise what fundamentalist Islam is doing. But I have enough personal experience with Syrians to know that they aren't flag burning fanatics but an oppressed and restricted people. Damascus was such a beautiful city before all this. I'm not saying I want "the West" to go and help, I'm just saying you should probably stop tarring these More..

    • @mcgus TV images from syria, south lebanon, gaza, egypt, jordan(the islamist groups), teheran(iran), iraq, jemen and a couple of more countries was shown all over the world. were they islamists? yeah, most likely. do i REALLY need to "prove" it to u? no. use google effective and focused and u will find the images shown to the world. al jahzeera had a less hateful coverage of both madridbombs and londonbombs. says alot of western socialist media?

  • Jesus Christ. At least Marie Colvin lived a full life and died doing something she was passionate about. Remi Ochlik, on the other hand, was far, FAR too young to die. May they both rest in peace . . . :(
